The department's growth traces back 9 decades, from the first VFD formed till present day as we look to start adding full time paid members.
The department's history traces back to 1932 when the Clayton VFD was formed. The Clayton VFD operated under this name until they merged with Cartersburg VFD and Belleville VFD in 2000. In this merger the department was named the Fire Department of Liberty Township (FDLT)
21 years after Clayton VFD was formed, members in Hazelwood formed their VFD in 1953. Hazelwood VFD merged into FDLT in 2006.
Formed in 1955, merged into FDLT in 2000, closed its doors in Cartersburg in 2000

In the year 2000, The Fire Department of Liberty Township was formed. It was the consolidation of Clayton, Cartersburg and Belleville
The mergers of all VFD's operating within Liberty Township was completed Janruary 1, 2006 after Hazelwood joined FDLT.
